Workshop
A deep dive into Systemic Design
Sabrina Tarquini
Exploring new design tools to co-create strategies for change
This workshop will focus on Systemic Design, a relatively new methodology that brings together methods from systems thinking and design thinking, in order to tackle complex organizational and social problems. During the workshop, Sabrina will be introducing the Systemic Design Toolkit, a set of design tools and techniques which are meant to be used in participatory workshops. The toolkit acts on a strategic level, supporting people in both the analysis of a problematic situation and the co-creation of multiple design "interventions".
The framework of the toolkit encourages dialogue between all the stakeholders involved, to allow for design solutions to be brought forth more effectively.
Outline
Expect a mostly interactive workshop (80% of the session will be hands-on). We'll be going through the seven steps of the systemic design methodology, simulating a real case. For each step, there will be a short (10 min) introduction and a hands-on activity, which consists in using a design technique.
Target audience
Designers who are interested in broadening their set of skills - especially in the strategic domain - and facilitators trying to cope with change on a social or organizational level. No prior experience with design is required.
About the speaker
Sabrina Tarquini
I am designer at Namahn, human-centred design agency based in Brussels, Belgium. In my practice I move between the domains of service and interaction design, with a special interest in the emerging field of systemic design. At Namahn, I have been contributing to the development of a methodology for systemic design, along with a toolkit for participatory sessions. I have been facilitating multiple design sessions with the tools and I regularly give trainings and workshops on the topic.
