Designing Sustainable Brands

Join Yasmin Borain, Head of Experience Design at Publicis Sapient, and Jani Cortesini, Creative Strategy Lead at Google Zoo, for a hands-on workshop on how to use design to help achieve the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals.

In September 2015, the General Assembly adopted the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development that includes 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). All organisations and individuals in the world have a responsibility to collaborate and make sure we achieve them together.

More and more, people want brands to make a positive contribution to society but it is also our responsibility as designers to make sure this happens through the products and services we create.

Don’t miss this inspiring and interactive day where you will learn how to use Design as a way of solving existing customer and business problems, that also contribute to the achievement of SDGs goals. You will learn more about the latest technology and inspiring case studies around sustainability from some major organisations, and you’ll also work on real client briefs and create solutions that will help organisations achieve customers, business and brand needs that have a real purpose.

This workshop will show you how to develop your strategic thinking around sustainability and brand purpose, to help brands connect people to values and have an impact in the world.

Outline

An interactive and insightful session that will take participants through the process of coming up with ideas to solve critical business problems that have a higher impact on the world. In a high level we will cover:

- Inspiration: How to become a sustainable brand - 30 min

- Break - 5 min

- The brief - 15 min

- Ideation: Google design sprint - 2 hrs 20 min

Define the problem - 15 min

Concepting - 20 min

Prioritise and refine - 15 min

Bring it to life - 1hr 30 min

- Pitch your idea - 35 min

Target audience

Designers (e.g. visual designers, experience designers, product designers, service designers), but anyone interested in the topic can join. Any level is welcome.

About the speakers

Yasmin Coelestine Borain

I'm a creative leader with 15 years of experience across experience design, innovation, design and storytelling.

In my current role as Creative Director of Experience Design at Publicis Sapient London, I lead teams and clients to tackle a broad range of strategic customer experience challenges across retail, finance, commercial, health-care, and luxury. My projects have included retail strategies for Bang and Olufsen and M&S, new product development for SKY, digital transformation for Save the Children to vision work for Unilever.

Jani Cortesini

I have 15 years’ experience working at the intersection of creativity and technology, through media agencies, creative agencies and now at Google.

I currently work as a Creative Strategy Lead in a team called the ZOO, where our mission is to solve business problems for Google's advertisers through Google Technology. I specifically focus on strategy and user insights, and the design and delivery of bespoke Design Sprints for advertisers and their agency & production partners. I have worked on projects spanning product design and advertising, and have implemented concepts leveraging Machine Learning, Voice User Interfaces, Media Display Technology, YouTube Content and Visual Search & AR.
