The radical new world of design: How infinite compute power and generative design change the role of design and designers
Oliver Wenz
Generative design methods paired with virtualized compute, storage and networking infrastructure will
radically change the way we design moving forward.
As algorithms evaluate not just a few design solutions but the entire solutions space of thousands of
possible designs - we will be doing more, better with less.
As algorithms evaluate not just a few design solutions but the entire solutions space of thousands of possible designs - we will be doing more, better with less.
As we approach the world of ubiquitous cloud infrastructure it is possible for designers to acquire infinite compute, storage and networking power to render, compute and simulate high end design solutions on smaller budgets.
The ability to acquire this virtualized compute power in the cloud paired with a shift to generative design methodologies enables the designer not only to create a few design options but thousands in real time.
This talk evaluates the impact on design and designers of these two paradigm shifts.
About the speaker
Oliver Wenz
I am a Director of User Experience at VMware in Palo Alto. In the middle of Silicon Valley I design product experiences for complex and large scale infrastructure applications with a global team of designers that are used in 90% of the top 500 companies worldwide.
I have helped companies like VMware, Cisco, Autodesk, Webex and others deliver products that are simple, intuitive and easy to use for millions of daily users.
I have shared my insights at conferences and workshops including SXSW and the TED Summit.
